About the Workshop This men's residential weekend will consist of structured group sessions framed by ritual elements. There will be opportunities for you to: build and maintain relationships with other men increase your ability to relate to others and therefore communicate more effectively gain greater strength and confidence increase your ability to be more creative in important areas in your life be playful One of the aims of psychodrama is to build community through people assisting others to develop themselves. At this psychodrama workshop the work of the group will be carried out in a variety of ways including: taking up auxiliary roles, dramatic enactments, and reflections. There is an emphasis on experiential learning, producing a satisfying and integrating experience. Group Leaders Simon Jones: Simon Jones is a psychodramatist, counsellor and social worker. He reflects; I embarked on my own personal development work when I was a young man struggling to be a good father for my children. I found psychodrama to be a powerful tool for my personal growth and therefore decided to start training in the method in the early 90's. At the about same time I joined my first men's group, which I found valuable for redefining my thoughts, feelings, and roles as a man. Simon Gurnsey: Simon Gurnsey is an advanced Psychodrama trainee, with over 20 years experience. He is a playback theatre actor, conductor, and trainer. He is also the office coordinator for the Canterbury Men's Centre. Workshop Venue Leigh Lodge - Journey's End Campsite. North Loburn, North Canterbury. Cost $220 - ($50 deposit due 18 September) The workshop fee includes food and accommodation. A place on the workshop can be booked by paying a $50.00 deposit. To confirm your place the balance of the fee must be paid at least a week (25 Sept) before the workshop begins. Some reduced fee places are available - please talk to Gorden Hamblyn at MensTrust. Refund policy If you cancel your booking less than a week before the workshop begins, a refund will only be given if a replacement participant is found. If the course fails to proceed, all deposits/fees will be refunded in full. If a time payment option has been approved, payment must be completed before the workshop starts. A group of Christchurch men established MensTrust to serve Canterbury men by providing regular, professional, and accountable therapeutic/educational workshops for men and to encourage the growth of men's support groups emerging from such events. About MensTrust We exist for the well being of our community and men's emotional development and personal growth. MensTrust is open to men regardless of race or background. MensTrust workshops are available for Men as a single experience and/or the Men's groups are available for ongoing support and involvement. Men can also choose from the services described at the bottom of this page. Our workshop fees cover the basic costs only. Our monthly meeting operates on a donation basis to cover costs. The men's groups are free of charge. MensTrust provides a starting place for men to build genuine friendships with other men and to develop more robust and deeper relationships; with partners, family, and colleagues. Come along prepared to participate fully and to engage with yourself and others. Through using the psychodrama method, you can begin to understand what the underlying issues are in a situation or with a person. Find out what you really want and learn how to work with others to achieve your goals. About Psychodrama Psychodrama is a tool for professional and personal growth. In psychodrama the drama of life is enacted, as both a rehearsal and a preparation for living the kind of life you want to live. Experiencing psychodrama offers possibilities for change and human evolution, for individuals, groups and society. Men at all levels of experience of psychodrama will benefit from participation in this workshop. You don't have to have any experience of psychodrama to benefit. About the Group Leaders Simon Jones is a Psychodramatist, counsellor and social worker in Golden Bay. "I embarked on my own personal development work when I was a young man struggling to be a good father to my children. I found psychodrama to be a powerful tool for my own personal growth and started training in the method in the early 90's. Simon Gurnsey is a senior psychodrama trainee, with over 20 years experience. He has been involved with men focused groups for many years. He assists organisations to develop their Social Networks and is office co-ordinator at the Canterbury Men's Centre. He is studying for a diploma in Not for Profit Management. "Psychodrama gives me the vitality to sustain myself in my life and work". David Goldsmith has been involved with men's psychodrama weekends since 2002 and has recently begun psychodrama and counselling training. David has also been a student of Zen meditation since 1997 and will lead short meditation periods grounded in present moment awareness.
